Please join us for the NYC - Theatrical Premiere of "RHINO MAN", a film that traces the heroic journey of rangers who risk their lives daily to safeguard South Africa's rhinos from extinction due to poaching.
The film features Anton Mzimba, head ranger of the Timbavati Private Nature Reserve, and his team's relentless struggle to protect the rhinos. Anton endures extended deployments away from his family, hazardous working conditions, and incessant threats to his life.
After the screening, you'll have an opportunity to hear from film director John Jurko II; A chair of the United for Wildlife North America Chapter, Managing Director at Deloitte Transactions and Business Analytics LLP, Miriam Ratkovicova; and Dr. Gohar Petrossian, Associate Professor, City University of New York, followed by a reception—hosted by John Jay College of Criminal Justice—offering light bites and refreshments.

John Jurko II is the lead director and producer who has overseen the completion of RHINO MAN since 2018. After receiving a BA in Film Production and Philosophy, he lived in LA, where he worked in the camera department of many indie films. He then moved to Atlanta, where he was drawn to RHINO MAN for its story and potential as a social impact project. He created and hosts The Rhino Man Podcast to further build awareness of the importance of rangers, the rhino poaching crisis, and our need to connect local communities to protected areas. John has presented to audiences such as His Royal Highness Prince William, government, international financial crime delegates, law enforcement, and conservation NGOs.

Matt Lindenberg is the Founder and Executive Director of the Global Conservation Corps (GCC). He is South African born and has spent six years working with and training rangers at the Southern African Wildlife College. Matt has his Masters in Conservation Biology from Grand Valley State University. He started RHINO MAN as a way to honor his late mentor Martin Mthembu, and to bring awareness and support to the rangers. Over time, this has led to the development of GCC and their Future Rangers Program, which today reaches over 40,000 students and aims to bridge the gap between communities and wildlife.
Matt is a spectacular and sought after public speaker, who has spoken to audiences such as His Royal Highness Prince William, government, banking executives, law enforcement, NGOs, and universities around the world.
Miriam is a Deloitte Transactions and Business Analytics LLP managing director. Part of the Anti-Money Laundering (AML) and Sanctions practice, she has more than 20 years of experience advising large global financial institutions on various Bank Secrecy Act (BSA)/AML, sanctions, and financial crime compliance matters.
In her role, Miriam has led multiple large and complex projects involving historical transaction investigations, Know Your Customer (KYC) remediations, AML and Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) risk assessments, and customer risk ratings. She has delivered AML/sanctions engagements across the US, Europe, and Canada.
Over the last 15 years, Miriam has developed and implemented AML/sanctions risk assessments for more than 35 institutions with global operations, including banks, broker-dealers, insurance companies, fintech companies, credit card processors, and non-financial institutions.
Miriam has led the development and deployment of DERA, Deloitte’s proprietary web-based risk assessment tool which supports multiple global financial institutions in AML/OFAC, Anti-bribery & Corruption (ABAC), and other compliance risk assessments.
Miriam has delivered multiple speaking sessions on AML, sanctions and financial crime at both US and international conferences. Miriam is currently serving on the Board of Directors of the Bankers Association for Trade and Finance (BAFT).
Dr. Gohar Petrossian is an Associate Professor in the Department of Criminal Justice, and the Deputy Executive Officer of the Criminal Justice Doctoral Program at City University of New York - Graduate Center. Dr Petrossian is a crime scientist, and her research focuses on crimes against wildlife. Dr. Petrossian has published over 60 scholarly articles, book chapters, and monographs on this topic. She is the author of the book The Last Fish Swimming: The Global Crime of Illegal Fishing, published in 2019. In the past several years, Dr Petrossian has been invited by renowned international institutions and organizations, such as the UNODC; the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (Wildlife and Environmental Crimes Unit); Wildlife Conservation Society, and Flora and Fauna International, as a panelist and guest speaker to discuss her work. Dr Petrossian’s research has been featured by Yale University’s Environment Review, National Geographic, PBS Nature, The Center for International Maritime Security, U.S. Naval Institute, Global Fishing Watch, and City University of New York Newswire.
